Recycling Your Christmas Tree in Atlanta

Recycling Your Christmas Tree in Atlanta

We read recently that real Christmas trees were once again becoming the popular tree of choice at Christmas in America.  We love a real tree for Christmas!  Nothing beats the look and, of course, the pine smell for Christmas.  But, once Christmas is over, what do you do?  Most of us get trees that are bigger than what the city will pick up curbside, so we wanted to give you some ideas about how you can recycle your tree in Atlanta.

If you are even short on time, there are local Boy Scout troops that will actually come pick up your tree from your home and recycle it for you.  All you have to do is place your tree at the curb!  They just ask for a $10 donation for their efforts.  We know of at least one troop here in Atlanta that is doing just that.  Click here for more details: http://troop266.us/trees.php.

Rent a chipper
Pine needles dry quickly, but decompose slowly, which means it makes excellent mulch.  If you have a few neighbors that have real trees also or if you have more wood that needs to be chipped, renting a chipper could be a great investment.  These can be rented at most hardware stores.

Bring One For the Chipper
If you are just trying to get rid of your one tree, this is a better option for you.  Bring One for the Chipper is a program sponsored by Keep Georgia Beautiful, Home Depot and some other local businesses.  It has been around for over 20 years.  They recycle Christmas trees and turn them into mulch, fuel and fish habitats and often the mulch is used for local beautification projects.  On January 3, 2015, many Home Depot locations host this event, so call your local store and find out if they are participating.  All you have to do is bring your tree up there and they do the rest.

  1. I just recycled my Christmas tree! It was nice being able to dispose of the tree properly. Now I just have one more tree to take care of. I have a large tree in my backyard that needs to be trimmed. I can't do it by myself, so I will have to hire someone to do it for me. Once it is trimmed, I won't have to worry about trees for a long time. http://www.mcgintybros.com/treecare.htm

  2. I don't need a Christmas tree removal company right now. I'm more so planning for the future. How much do tree removal companies charge to take the tree away? I'm not sure why I didn't consider this at Christmas time.

  4. These are some great suggestions, thanks. My husband is always saying a live tree for Christmas is too much work, but I think we could handle it. Recycling a Christmas tree might be harder than packing it back into a box, but I think the live tree is worth the effort. There are more options for tree removal these days than there ever have been before. http://www.adelaidetreefellingservices.com.au

  5. These are really great tips that we should all be thankful for during the holiday season. We put in a lot of work ourselves either cutting down trees for customers to use or helping to even hang lights! It's something every long island tree service specializes in.

  6. I never thought about turning a Christmas tree into mulch before. Next January we will be sure and have someone take it through a chipper. We have some other trees that could use the mulch. http://www.chiefbeaver.com/services
